Individual Pupil Timetables?!

You may have heard your child talking about 'Individual Pupil Timetables'. Primary 5/6 are going to be in charge of their own learning all day Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday morning of next week (starting 2nd December). They will select what to do and when. The pupils will be given a blank timetable and they will fill in when they are going to do their work from the list of jobs on display. Every job must be completed and many tasks can only be started after direct teaching. The pupils will be carrying out the same work as they would do in a normal week. The pupils will have the opportunity to manage their own learning giving them the opportunity to be 'Effective Contributors, Responsible Citizens, Confident Individuals and Successful Learners (the four capacities that 'A Curriculum for Excellence' is built upon).

The pupils are looking forward to the experience but know that they will need to work exceedingly hard to completed all the tasks.

This sounds like a very bold plan. I hope to hear how you all enjoy this way of working. Come into my office and tell me how it is going.
